Stop Settling September: Day Five

Notes on the Reinvention of Jaime

I stayed up until almost 3:30 last night.

This is one of my biggest temptations. I love a quiet house. There is something about being awake when everyone else is asleep that makes me feel like I’ve been handed a few extra hours that belong entirely to me.

Unfortunately, my morning self does not appreciate this arrangement.

I’m trying to pay attention to what I actually do with my days instead of only measuring them by what I intended to do.

The house

My steamer arrived today.

This is perhaps not the most glamorous sentence ever written on Substack, but I was genuinely excited about it.

I steamed the carpets, the couch, and the fabric chairs. I also finally got the wax off one of my blue velvet chairs in the breakfast nook.

A cat, presumably, knocked over a burning candle not long after I got the chairs. The candle went out, but not before leaving wax on the chair. I’ve been annoyed by that spot for quite some time, so I was relieved to finally have been able to get it off. It’s been years.

Sometimes progress is a major life accomplishment, but other times it’s getting candle wax off a blue velvet chair. I’ll take both.

A little delight

I spent some time outside and started a paint-by-number from Aldi.

It’s a very serene little scene with a boat on the water and a tree hanging over it. I always find paint-by-numbers relaxing. I don’t have to concentrate too hard and can listen to an audiobook or podcast or just THINK. I’m counting that as my personal delight for the day.

Etsy

Etsy was less successful.

I didn’t make a listing.

I still haven’t made a listing.

I did, however, spend some time looking at possible things I could list. I’m having a surprisingly difficult time making decisions about what to actually create, which is strange because I’ve EASILY done a 100-day listing challenge before.

So I know I can make things and list them. I’m just currently stuck in the part where there are too many possibilities and I want to choose the right one, which is another instance of my perfectionism creeping in.

Taking care of myself

Saturday breakfast is one of my favorite things because Matt makes a really good, substantial breakfast. Eggs, sausage, potatoes. Protein. Actual food.

I ate that around 11, skipped lunch, and then had grilled chicken thighs, salad, and oven fries for dinner.

So, nutritionally speaking, the day was actually pretty decent.

I also spent some time lying in the sun.

I’ve realized that I really haven’t been getting much sun this summer, and it was one of my goals to soak up the best source of vitamin D out there. Other than our beach days in Florida, I’ve mostly been inside or on our shaded porch.

I want to make getting outside in the sun a daily thing while there is still vitamin D to be had.

And tomorrow is another day!

Good night.
