Notes on the Reinvention of Jaime
Well, I am on Day Three of The Reinvention of Jaime, also known as Stop Settling September. And I am currently all distracted because the cat just hopped on my keyboard and now it is flashing different colors, which is so annoying. Fortunately, she is tiny. Not a kitten as she’s nearly two, but she’s only 4 pounds. And she completely adores me.
Did I go to bed too late last night? Yes. But to be fair, it was because someone hacked my website and I wanted to get it up and running again.
I planted the mum I bought at Aldi, which I needed to get into the ground. That technically counts as a house task, although I wasn’t even thinking about that when I was doing it.
Then, because I had been procrastinating and it was really late, I took everything out from underneath the downstairs bathroom sink. There was a big messy pile of towels, so I folded those and put everything back where it belonged. A very short task, but meaningful.
For Etsy, I logged into my account and discovered that I’ve had several purchases today because Australian Father’s Day is this Sunday. I tend to get customers from Australia around Father’s Day, so that was nice.
I also researched some products that I want to create and put into my shop. So I did something for Etsy, although I did notice that I have a tendency to research the thing instead of actually making the thing.
And I need to make the thing, because my goal is to create 30 listings this month for an Etsy challenge I’m doing, and it’s Day Three and I haven’t actually created a listing yet.
The best thing I did for myself today, though, was go for a walk after dinner.
I wanted to get outside into the sunset because I’m trying to get my circadian rhythms in better shape and spend more time outside in the light throughout the day. I left the house just before sunset, and I brought my phone because I needed to take my picture of the day.
I’ve been doing a picture of the day on Instagram for years now, and my streak is so long, I can’t miss it. So I combined personal delight, my long-time habit, and the need to walk after dinner and went for a walk.
I haven’t been super consistent with walks lately, and for a long time I was going every day. It felt so good for my soul that I started crying, and I’m not really much of a crier.
There was something about stepping out the door and walking this evening that I really needed.
I’m counting the walk as both my health thing and my delight thing for the day.
I did some things for my house. I did something for Etsy. I got outside. I watched the sunset. I spent time with my family. I wrote this.
And now I really need to get to bed because it is almost one o’clock.
Again.
Apparently, Stop Settling September includes stopping settling for staying up until one in the morning.
“All right, Smidgen. How about you sit down here?” (This part is funny, because I was dictating this for transcription instead of typing it, and at the end my little cat, whose name is Darcy, but I call Smidgen, hopped on my keyboard again, so I plopped her on my lap. Which is where she prefers to be. Always.)
