Gifts for book lovers: Little Women

There are so many artists out there who inspire us and remind us of some of our favorite reads. I decided to put together a series with some of my favorite bookish gifts for readers.

I’m going to break it down by book/author and decided to start with Little Women since it’s nearing Christmas as I write this and the book is so widely associated with that holiday.

Confession: Little Women isn’t my favorite of Louisa May Alcott’s books. That would be An Old-Fashioned Girl, although I also really like Hospital Sketches.

Alcott was one of the people that I read every biography of that I could get my hands on from the library as a kid. I think knowing how much of her own personal life and family is woven into her most famous book made me more curious about her.

So here is my list of Little Women and other Alcott-related delights.

This pretty hardcover edition of the book illustrated by Anna Rifle Bond is so lovely! I own this one, and it’s surprisingly affordable. I have it as part of a boxed set from the Puffin in Bloom collection, and the whole things makes an excellent gift (it includes Heidi, Anne of Green Gables, and A Little Princess).

Another edition of the book that I own and love is this pink one from the Barnes and Noble Leather-bound Classics Collection. It includes the text of Little Women and ALSO the sequels, Little Men and Jo’s Boys.

This pretty print from my friend, Lucy, features a quote from Jo March. ” I like good, strong words that mean something.”

This darling tiny book can go on a necklace as a pendant or a charm bracelet.

Paper dolls! Remember those? I had so much fun with them as a kid. There’s another version here, as well.

There are TWO different Little Women Cookbooks! I have only flipped through them, but they seem like fun books to add to a collection if one likes to cook. The one with the blue cover is by Wini Moranville and the purple one is by Jenne Bergstrom.
